What is Plastic Free July?
Plastic Free July is a global movement that inspires millions of people to take an active role in reducing plastic pollution. By choosing to refuse single-use plastics in July, we can collectively make an impactful difference. Best of all, participating in Plastic Free July will help you discover excellent alternatives that can become lasting habits.
How Can You Get Started?
Look around and identify instances where you are using plastic. What can you swap? What other alternatives are there? We put together a short list of items to help inspire you:
- Use reusable shopping bags instead of plastic bags.
- Bring your own water bottle with you everywhere rather than buying plastic ones – on average, Americans purchase 13 bottles per month*, that’s 156 plastic bottles per year!
- Swap liquid soaps or shampoos for bar soaps – it is estimated that 1 shampoo bar eliminates 2 to 3 plastic bottles from ending up in landfills.
- Opt for plastic-free toothbrushes, toothpaste, and mouthwash in your dental care routine.
- Carry reusable utensils and straws to avoid single-use plastics when eating out.
- Switch to reusable food wraps like beeswax wraps instead of plastic cling film.
- Choose products with minimal or no packaging to reduce overall waste.
- Use refillable containers for household products like detergents and cleaning supplies.
Just think about the potential impact if everyone went plastic-free for a month! It is estimated that 79%* of the plastic that has ever been made sits out there in landfills, the oceans, the beaches, the streets, etc. At Ciclado, we believe that every small action counts, and by cycling through life with empathy, purpose, and excitement, we can collectively make a significant difference.
So, what are you waiting for? Join us and share with us on social media what steps you’re taking to go plastic-free in July (and beyond!). Let's work together to make a significant change and embrace the journey towards a more sustainable world.
